AALT Board Nominations

The Alberta Association of Library Technicians (AALT) Nominations Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the following positions on the upcoming board of directors:

President Elect: One-year term, followed by a one-year term as President. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Chairs the Communications Group, Awards Committee and Nominations Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Member at Large: One-year term, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: chairs the Professional Development Group, administers the AALT Mentoring Program, chairs the Mentoring Committee and Conference Committee.

Conference Co-chairs: One year term, plans and hosts the 44th Annual AALT conference with the support of the conference committee.

Conference Update

AALT Conference 2017 - Bringing It All Together and accommodations at the Banff Park and Bow View Lodges have now sold out! We are no longer taking registrations but we are making a wait list for those who are still interested if there are cancellations. Send your names to conference@aalt.org and we will add you. There is still room on the conference bus and family/friends are welcome at the same price, best to act soon as seats are filling fast.

The AALT Silent Auction is also back and shaping up to be better than ever. We will be running the Silent Auction from Friday, April 21 to Saturday, April 22 during the conference. Items for the Silent Auction are arriving daily and they are awesome! If you have something you would like to donate for the Silent Auction, please let the Conference Committee know at the conference email listed above. Handcrafted and handmade items are welcome.

Bringing It All Together: AALT Conference April 20-23, 2017

Early bird registration is now open for the Alberta Association of Library Technicians’ annual conference being held in beautiful Banff, Alberta, at the Banff Park Lodge Hotel & Conference Centre, on April 20-23, 2017. The theme expresses the idea that library technicians/library personnel use various concepts, tools, and resources with a focus on collaboration, creativity and communication, not only to fulfill their duties as technicians but also in their daily lives.

Open Education Continuing Education Opportunity

Announcement of Grant for Open Education Gathering, October 4th , 2016 at the Maskwacis Cultural College

Interested in learning about open education? You are invited to apply for an exciting funded continuing education opportunity. The Maskwacis Cultural College (MCC) is hosting a day-long gathering about open education practices. This grant will cover registration costs, applications must be received by Friday, September 16th 2016.

Open Education in Action

Date: Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Location: Maskwacis Cultural College

Maskwacis Cultural College Library is proud to fund this workshop because it supports library’s statement of values in its Diversity Policy and Plan to demonstrate and promote diversity, inclusivity, and equity throughout the organization and its programs and services.

Application deadline: Friday, September 16th
Amount of Grant: Eligible expenses include registration fees
Eligibility: Education administrators, instructional designers, instructional technologists, instructors, students, literacy, and library staff
Criteria: Application to contain the following: one paragraph rationale statement stating ways in which you will apply open education practices in your life or work
Reporting: Provide a 1-2 page report describing the event and the impact it had on your professional development, within one month of attending the workshop.
